As Germany's third largest city, Munich, Germany has a population of 1.3 million people and the Munich Metropolitan Region is home to approximately 6 million. Munich, Germany is located on the Rivar Isar just north of the Bavarian Alps. Munich is also the capital city of the State of Bavaria, Germany.

Munich features a continental climate that is often changing due to its close proximity to the Alps. Rainstorms are frequently violent and the temperatures range drastically between night and day and winters are often quite harsh. The winters in Munich, Germany last from December to March with January being the coldest month, as temperatures often drop to -2oC or 28oF. Munich's hottest month is July with summer highs reaching 65oF.

1158 is the assumed year that Munich, Germany was founded, as it is the earliest date that is mentioned in any documents regarding the city. It was also around that time that Guelph Henry the Lion, Duke of Saxony and Bavaria had built a bridge over the Isar River to settle the area that was home to Benedictine monks. Munich, Germany was granted city status in 1175.

Munich, Germany had an interesting history during World War I and II. Munich was home to Hitler and his supporters in 1923. At this time the Nazi Party was virtually unknown outside of the city, but would later be base of Hitler's movement. Nearby in Dachau, the Nazis built the first concentration camp, only about 10 miles Northwest of Munich, Germany. The city was quite damaged during World War II from bombing. The city had been hit by 71 air raids over six years.

Later, in 1972, Munich, Germany was the site of the 1972 Summer Olympics, during which Israeli athletes were assassinated by Palestinian terrorists.
